Selves Inspired by Cindy Sherman

Coinciding with the Art Gallery of Ontario’s midcareer retrospective of the photo work of American artist Cindy Sherman, Nemerofsky Ramsay collaborated with two Toronto based artists to produce a series of self-portraits inspired by Sherman’s style. The works referenced various periods in Sherman’s 25-year career, using her work as a template for examinations of contemporary characters, genders and emotional impressions. An exhibition of the entire series was held at the now-defunct Area Gallery in Toronto, and opened the day after Sherman’s own vernissage.
