YOU AND ME TOGETHER FIGHTING FOR OUR LOVE is an ongoing project seeking to honour British pop singer Jimmy Somerville through a variety of creative acts. The project engages various traditional gestures to write Somerville into pop history as an heroic contributor to queer culture. In particular, the project recognizes the song Smalltown Boy as nothing less than an anthem for generations of queers, with lyrics that remain as poignant and relevant today as they were in 1984.
The project began with JIMMY an embroidered flag with accompanying performance in 2007. Recent incarnations of the project involve the artist designing a series of tartans as proposal for a Jimmy Somerville Tartan.
